Pride Month Uplifts Empathy and Allyship in Philippine Communities

This June, Pride Month once again weaves its magic across the Philippines, igniting streets, communities, and hearts with a powerful call for empathy and allyship. As rainbow flags unfurl and celebrations bloom, Filipino LGBT+ individuals and allies find renewed strength in unity, proving, as always, that love and understanding can remake a nation, one act of kindness at a time.

Lighting up icons for diversity and inclusion

One of the most striking sights this year is the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ (CCP) main building, whose façade now glows with a spectrum of rainbow colors. The installation, designed around the concept of unique fingerprints, serves as a visual reminder that every person’s journey, identity, and truth deserve recognition and celebration. CCP Artistic Director Dennis N. Marasigan highlights, “The fingerprint motif is both intimate and powerful. It symbolizes identity, authenticity, and visibility, central themes in the ongoing conversation about gender equality and inclusion.” Through such public art, the CCP affirms its commitment to representation, safe spaces, and human rights for all.

Quezon City and UP-Diliman champion safe and inclusive spaces

Meanwhile, Quezon City and the University of the Philippines-Diliman, together with the Pride PH Coalition, are hosting the 2025 Pride Festival on June 28. This year’s theme, “Lovelaban sa Diliman,” is all about fierce love and solidarity for marginalized voices. The festival features a Pride Expo, a energetic March, and Pride Night, alongside the creative “Pride Villages” emerging across the city.

City Mayor Joy Belmonte’s words ring with determination: “For years, QC has stood as a proud ally of the LGBTQIA+ community, not merely in words but through concrete policies and programs that truly champion gender equality.” UP-Diliman Chancellor Edgardo Carlo L. Vistan II echoes this, affirming the university’s ongoing role as a haven for queer students and allies. Organizers place safety, mental health support, and inclusivity front and center, ensuring every attendee finds belonging.
