From the break of dawn, the University of the Philippines’ sun-dappled walkways transformed into a patchwork of rainbow flags, chika-filled reunions, and proud trails of students, advocates, and allies. A record-breaking crowd assembled for the Pride March, weaving through academic halls that have long sheltered queer dreams. By lunchtime, the campus was buzzing as the Pride Expo opened, offering everything from advocacy booths to queer-owned market stalls. Each conversation, each laugh, underscored the sense of belonging hard-won through years of struggle.

Safer, bolder, prouder: the new face of Pride

Safety and inclusion took center stage. Organizers, led by the Pride PH Coalition with UP Diliman’s support, pioneered Pride Villages across Quezon City, expanding safe spaces for attendees of all SOGIESC backgrounds. Security teams, medical volunteers, and mental health advocates were visible at every turn. National Convener Vince Liban assured, “This year’s Pride prioritizes safety and inclusivity, with stronger support systems and a culture of radical respect at the core.” It was a statement felt in every hug and every dance-off, amplified by performances from drag icons like Marina Summers and P-pop stars that brought both kilig and collective catharsis.
