Philippines in Focus: Celebrating Global LGBT+ Unity
This year, the Philippines has taken its place on the global stage by showcasing solidarity, pride, and unity through active celebrations and meaningful advocacy during Pride Month and beyond. Filipino LGBT+ communities have shown that their voices, and their colors, are stronger and brighter when we come together, locally and globally.
The heart of Pride: Celebrating Filipino queer creativity
From June through August 2025, Manila has been alive with events that go far beyond rainbows and parades, they are a sign to the strength and creativity of our queer communities. One standout is Komiket Pride 2025, held at Ayala Malls The 30th, which brought queer artists and storytellers together under one roof. Here, LGBTQIA+ creators showcased comics and zines that reflected the realities, joys, and challenges of local queer life, making everyone feel both seen and celebrated.
Running for equality: Pride runs bring visibility
The movement isn’t just about creative expression, it’s about physical presence, too. The first-ever Quezon City Pride Run transformed Tomas Morato Avenue into a 5K rainbow runway. Running “shoulder to shoulder with folks who believe in equality,” participants made a powerful statement: We are here, we are strong, and we belong in every public space. Events like these show that inclusion and advocacy can, and should, be joyful, healthy, and highly visible.
Pageantry and empowerment: Crowning pride champions
Pride is also about putting role models in the spotlight. At the glittering Mr. Gay World Philippines 2025 coronation night, held at Skydome SM North Edsa, the crowned winner earned not just a sash but the right to represent Filipino queer excellence on the global stage. The event highlighted how Filipino pageantry is more than glitz and glam, it’s about activism, resilience, and promoting positive LGBT+ representation worldwide. See the winning moment here.
Global context: The Philippines as part of a broader movement
Filipino LGBT+ communities are proudly part of a much larger global collection. As seen in the diverse list of worldwide LGBT+ events, from Bangkok’s parades to Oslo’s sporting festivals, queer celebration knows no borders. The Philippines’ contribution, creative festivals, inclusive sporting events, and bold advocacy, echoes the global call for equality and mutual support.
“The world is watching, and together we are showing that Filipino pride is about love, strength, and standing tall, no matter where we are on the rainbow.”
