# CHR Addresses Rising HIV Cases in Filipino LGBT Hotspots

In an energetic and passionate response to the urgent HIV crisis affecting our lively community, the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) is stepping into the lively LGBT nightlife of Manila to tackle this escalating issue head-on. Just recently, we highlighted in our article, “HIV Crisis Escalates in Filipino LGBT Community,” that there were 5,101 new cases reported in the first quarter of 2025 alone. This staggering 50% increase from last year demanded a response, and now, we have it.

## Focus on Key Hotspots

Our young bakla, bisexual icons, and trans pioneers, especially those aged 15 to 34, are facing the brunt of this crisis. Alarmingly, 95% of these infections occur through male-to-male sexual contact. By the third quarter, another 5,583 cases were reported, as noted by [Philstar](https://www.philstar.com/nation/2025/11/28/2490368/5583-hiv-cases-logged-july-september), marking a 22% increase and bringing the daily average to 61 new diagnoses in these high-activity zones. Stigma remains a major barrier, discouraging our youth from accessing PrEP, testing, and treatment; only 55% are diagnosed, with 66% on antiretroviral therapy nationwide.
