CHR Investigates Anti-LGBTQ Policy in Maguindanao

The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has launched an investigation into this troubling situation.
A Heartbreaking Raid
On November 11, 2025, local radio stations were abuzz with troubling news: officials, reportedly acting under the instruction of Mayor Datu Lah Braim Datu Ali Mabulod, forcibly entered the homes of individuals perceived to be lesbians and gays. These same-sex couples were torn apart and subjected to public humiliation at the barangay hall. One official went so far as to claim that their love defied both man-made laws and Islamic teachings. Without any legal warrants, these actions inflicted emotional harm and publicly shamed private lives. CHR’s Unyielding Position: Love Cannot Be Outlawed
The CHR was firm in its statement: “There is no law in the Philippines that prohibits women from living with women or men with men.” They pointed out violations related to privacy, equality, and the Safe Spaces Act (RA 11313), which protects against homophobic harassment, as well as the Magna Carta of Women (RA 9710). The CHR emphasized that, as a secular nation, religious beliefs cannot be used to justify state-endorsed discrimination.
