An ally of Duterte in Congress is introducing an anti-LGBTQ bill that threatens to undo significant progress. This isn’t a mere discussion; it’s a clear challenge to our rights, and we need to rally our resistance now!

The Concerning Legislation

We’re starting to hear more about this controversial proposal, which is backed by someone closely aligned with Duterte, aiming to dismantle the protections we’ve been fighting to uphold. Remember how the family has had a history of playing both sides? While Inquirer.net noted Vice President Sara Duterte’s recent support for two pro-LGBTQIA+ bills like the Full Anti-Discrimination Act and Civil Union Act, this new initiative changes the narrative. It’s a typical divide-and-conquer maneuver, endorsing “safe” bills from allies like Senators Robin Padilla and Imee Marcos, while disregarding the full SOGIESC Equality Bill from critics like Sen. Risa Hontiveros.

Duterte’s Past: Supportive or Subversive?

We can’t overlook the history here. Back in 2019, ABS-CBN highlighted how President Rodrigo Duterte pledged to expedite an anti-discrimination bill but explicitly excluded the crucial SOGIE one we so deeply require.
