Filipino Representation Goes “Louder” in Seattle

Seattle Pride has announced “Louder” as its electrifying theme for 2025, and honey, our Filipino queer artists are taking that directive to heart! The June 29th parade, expected to draw over 300,000 attendees, will feature a stunning contingent of Filipino drag performers, visual artists, and activists ready to strut from Westlake Park to Seattle Center in a dazzling celebration of intersectional pride.

Seattle’s Pride has deep activist roots since 1974, and this year’s Filipino participants are bringing their own revolutionary flair to the proceedings. From traditional Filipino textiles reimagined through a queer lens to performances blending Manila club aesthetics with Pacific Northwest sensibilities, it’s a cultural fusion that’s making the ancestors proud while pushing boundaries forward.

Artie’s Picks: Filipino Standouts to Watch

My sources tell me that a collective of Filipino-American drag artists will be serving a special tribute to Philippine queer history through a performance piece titled “Bakla Before Borders.” The piece traces the pre-colonial acceptance of gender diversity in Filipino culture through Spanish colonization to today’s active queer resistance. Work that historical narrative, queens!

Visual artists from the Eastside are also making their mark at the “Rainbow on the Eastside” exhibition running June 5-30 at Centro Cultural Mexicano in Redmond.
