On Monday, Bahaghari and Rainbow Rights launched what they’re calling the “2025 LGBTQ+ Agenda”, a bold seven-point plan that’s setting the stage for the upcoming May 12 midterm elections and beyond!
I was buzzing with excitement at Kamuning Restaurant Cafe as Reyna Valmores Salinas, Bahaghari’s fierce chairperson, unveiled this groundbreaking initiative. “LGBTQ+ Filipinos nationwide and internationally have created a unified LGBTQ+ Agenda,” Salinas announced to thunderous applause. “This is our collective voice demanding recognition before, during, and even after the 2025 elections!”
So what’s in this historic agenda? Let me break it down for you:
First up, thorough legal protection! We’re talking the IMMEDIATE passage of a national anti-discrimination law, marriage equality (yes, Same Sex Marriage!), and gender recognition policies that actually respect who we are.
The second point hits close to my heart, “Inclusive Schools Now.” Our community is demanding SOGIESC education in classrooms, an end to those restrictive uniform policies (we’ve all been there!), and pushing back against militarization in schools. It’s time our educational spaces became truly safe for everyone.
While the press conference didn’t elaborate on all seven points, the energy in the room made it clear, this isn’t just another wishlist. This is a unified, strategic demand for meaningful change.
What makes this agenda truly special is the incredible coalition behind it. Beyond Bahaghari and Rainbow Rights, organizations like PUP Kasarianlan, LGBTQ+ workers group BE GLAD, and even faith-based groups like Open Table MCC contributed their voices. This is truly a movement by and for ALL of us!
