Global Allies Boost Filipino LGBTQ Empowerment

International Partners Back Local LGBTQ+ Empowerment Efforts

Positive change is blooming across our local LGBTQ+ community, fueled by fierce advocates and the embrace of international partners. On September 2, 2025, new collaborations and funding opportunities from global organizations made headlines, opening fresh pathways for queer Filipinos seeking justice, leadership, and safety. These partnerships remind us that while our struggles are unique, we are never alone: the world is rooting for our empowerment and equality.

Empowerment through leadership: Building skills and solidarity

Empowerment starts when queer voices are uplifted in places where decisions are made. This week, the LGBTQ+ Victory Institute welcomed 120 new LGBTQ+ leaders from around the world into its campaign training program. Among this diverse cohort are Filipinos and regional advocates determined to break barriers and run for public office. What’s remarkable about this year’s training? For the first time, a partnership with Advocates for Trans Equality ensures trans and gender-expansive leaders have tailored support, addressing the realities they face and affirming that our community’s diversity is its strength. Taking a step beyond basic representation, this collaboration is an investment in skills, confidence, and transformative power that will ripple through our grassroots movements.

International networks: Shared knowledge, deeper connections

Our community thrives with global wisdom. At ILGA-Europe, a worldwide resource hub has opened its digital doors, a treasure trove of easy-access materials for activists and allies committed to LGBTQ+ rights. Their network makes it easier for local champions, especially those in need of legal or mental health support, to tap into modern strategies and safety toolkits. By connecting us with movements across continents, ILGA-Europe helps Filipino LGBTQ+ folks find affirmation, strategies, and solidarity, whether organizing a pride event in Manila or seeking to end discrimination at home.

Heart to heart: Hope, resources, and next steps

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, especially when discrimination and setbacks seem endless. But these international partnerships show that we belong to a global family, one that invests not just in funding, but in our future, voices, and dreams. If you’re a young queer person looking for mentorship, leadership skills, or simply a reassuring hand, know that opportunities, like the candidate trainings or ILGA-Europe’s resource center, are now more accessible than ever. You’re meant to shine.

Take a gentle moment: What kind of support would help you share your truth more boldly? Where might you find your next ally, teacher, or safe space?

Do you want to connect, learn, or lead? Whether you’re ready to join the movement or simply curious, these resources are for you. Explore leadership trainings, or visit ILGA-Europe to discover tools for safety and empowerment.
