QUEERLAYAAN Art Market: A Riot of Color and Advocacy in Manila

On July 12, 2025, Manila pulsed with energetic energy and unapologetic pride as the QUEERLAYAAN Art Market splashed its colors across the city’s creative scene. More than just a marketplace, QUEERLAYAAN became a living, breathing canvas, one where art and advocacy met in an explosion of hope and visibility for the Filipino LGBT+ community. As sunlight streamed into the Bayanihan Center, each booth told a story: of coming out, coming together, and refusing to fade into the background.

Stepping into the venue, visitors were immediately enveloped in a kaleidoscope of hues, rainbow banners, hand-painted tote bags, daring zines, and pride pins sparkled in every direction. Over 200 queer artists, crafters, and makers showcased their work, transforming the space into a gallery of resilience and joy. Art with a mission

What made QUEERLAYAAN stand out was its unapologetic embrace of advocacy. Every peso spent did double duty: fueling the dreams of queer creators and supporting the Ayala Foundation’s vital feeding and typhoon relief efforts. The crowd was as diverse as the art itself, students, elders, drag queens, parents, and barkada groups. Each found themselves moved by works that celebrated identities often sidelined in mainstream galleries. The event was powered by StickerCon and ARTEGOph, and energized by corporate partners like Globe, showing what’s possible when communities and allies link arms for progress.

A marketplace of belonging

Throughout the day, laughter and conversation flowed as easily as the coffee from local stalls. Shoppers lingered over comics depicting trans joy, watercolor portraits of same-sex couples, and tarot readings by nonbinary mystics. “I never expected to see myself, my whole self, reflected in someone’s art,” shared Mika, a first-time vendor whose rainbow resin jewelry sold out before sundown. “This feels like a family reunion, not just a market.”

QUEERLAYAAN was more than a Saturday market; it was an affirmation that queer joy and struggle deserve the spotlight.
