New LGBTQ Youth Resources Launched for Pride Month

Building Empathy Through Stories: New Resources for Filipino LGBTQ+ Youth

Heart to heart, dear reader, for many Filipino LGBTQ+ youth, finding spaces where you feel seen, safe, and truly understood is still a daily struggle. This Pride Month, however, brings more than just color and celebration; it marks the launch of new resources and events designed to amplify young queer voices and build empathy through the power of storytelling. These initiatives aren’t just about sharing narratives, they’re about promoting healing, connection, and hope.

Safe spaces to share, connect, and grow

June 26, 2025, is a landmark day for our community. The Quezon City government, the University of the Philippines-Diliman, and the Pride PH Coalition have come together to host the 2025 Pride Festival themed “Lovelaban sa Diliman.” This event is more than a celebration, it’s a safe haven where LGBTQ+ youth and their allies can raise their voices and find belonging. Pride Villages will pop up throughout Quezon City, offering dedicated spaces for storytelling, workshops, and resources focused on mental health, self-advocacy, and acceptance. As UP Chancellor Edgardo Carlo L. Vistan II says, “UP has always been a safe space for queer students and allies” (pia.gov.ph).

Empathy starts with sharing our truth

Empathy flourishes when we hear and honor each other’s stories. The 2024 Philippines National Survey on the Mental Health of LGBTQ+ Young People reinforces this: young people who feel accepted by their community face lower risks of self-harm and suicide, underscoring the lifesaving role of open, supportive environments (The Trevor Project). This year, mental health advocates, educators, and local organizations are collaborating to distribute materials designed for Filipino youth, zines, comics, and videos in Tagalog and other local languages, highlighting lived experiences and celebrating community resilience. These stories affirm: “You are never alone.”

Books as bridges: Building understanding one page at a time

There’s nothing more powerful than a story to help us understand ourselves and one another. Recent releases uplift LGBTQ+ stories not just for young readers, but for parents and educators craving guidance on encouraging empathy and inclusion. By diversifying our bookshelves with queer Filipino narratives, from picture books to memoirs, everyone gets a chance to see their value reflected and to learn about lives different from their own (Scholastic Kids).

Empathy is built, not gifted. Every time we listen, read, or share bravely, our world grows kinder and stronger.

Gentle next steps: Join, listen, tell your story

If you’re looking for a place to start nurturing empathy, visit the Pride Villages, participate in a storytelling workshop, or pick up an LGBTQ+ book written by a Filipino author. For digital self-help materials, safe space guides, and self-love resources published this Pride Month, check out the offerings on Lusog-Isip Online (PAP).

Dear reader, your story matters. Let’s keep building safe, compassionate spaces, one brave, beautiful narrative at a time. Share your truth, and let’s shape a more empathetic, loving Philippines together.
