Imagine this: two full days filled with queer art, films, zines, and interactive art-making at Sikat Inc. on Tomas Morato Avenue in Diliman, Quezon City. It’s happening on February 27 from 2 PM to 9 PM and on February 28 from 1 PM to 7 PM, with free entry for all. It’s a celebration of works from the Southeast Asia Queer Cultural Festival collection and regional artivists. Bring your friends, experience stories that must be heard, and even contribute to a Queer Community Quilt envisioning a more inclusive ASEAN. This parallel exhibit to the major summit is truly enchanting, with colorful resistance and collective energy in the air!
SEAQAJS Summit: Uniting Art and Activism
At the forefront is the Southeast Asia Queer Arts and Justice Summit (SEAQAJS), gathering over 70 LGBTQIA+ artists, activists, and cultural workers from the region from February 26 to 28. Organized by the ASEAN SOGIE Caucus, it centers around “artivism”, a powerful fusion of art and advocacy addressing issues like shrinking civic spaces, censorship, climate justice, and legal challenges. Workshops on queer futures, creative economies, healing, and Indigenous knowledge? Count me in!
