In a lively showcase of Filipino talent, LGBTQ+ artists from the Philippines are increasingly gaining international recognition, bringing their unique perspectives to global audiences while proudly representing both their cultural heritage and queer identities.
The artistic renaissance within the Filipino LGBTQ+ community comes at a time when the Philippines itself is experiencing significant milestones in queer visibility and acceptance. Just this February, the country celebrated numerous LGBTQ+ achievements, including the third Philippine LGBTQ Icon Awards which honored five individuals for their contributions to the community.

Among the notable talents gaining international attention is Justine Llarena, a 20-something artist known for her ethereal paintings and distinctive style. Now three years into her hormone therapy journey, Llarena has become an inspiration for many trans artists. “There’s a reason why we have to grow up strong, especially in the world where we still have to fight for our rights,” Llarena shared in a previous interview.
In the photography world, BJ Pascual continues to break barriers. The Manila-based fashion and portrait photographer has shot over 300 magazine covers and worked with international personalities including Elsa Hosk and Troye Sivan, as well as luxury brands like Gucci, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton.

What distinguishes many Filipino LGBTQ+ artists is their deep connection to activism and community issues. This intersection of art and advocacy was highlighted during last year’s “Pabuhagay” exhibit at Alta Citta Mall in Tagbilaran City, which featured works by eighteen LGBTQ+ Boholano artists, marking the first time the provincial government of Bohol officially celebrated Pride Month.
Researcher Giulia Casalini, who spent time studying queer art communities in the Philippines, noted that “the LGBTQ+ movement in the provinces tends to be closer to land rights and workers’ struggles, rather than focusing exclusively on sexual/gender identity,” reflecting a uniquely Filipino approach to queer activism through art.

The LOV3LABAN 2025 Pride event, scheduled for June 28, promises to be a significant celebration of Filipino LGBTQ+ pride and creativity. Meanwhile, the 2025 Philippine LGBTQ+ Gender Spectrum Forum and Leadership Symposium, held earlier this year, brought together thought leaders to advance conversations on inclusion.
