Quezon City Launches Inclusive Mental Health Support Line

Quezon City Opens First All-Gender Mental Health Helpline

Quezon City has just set a new standard for inclusivity and care in the Philippines by launching its first all-gender mental health helpline, making mental wellness support accessible to everyone, regardless of gender identity. This pioneering initiative arrives at a crucial time, as more Filipinos, especially within the LGBT+ community, are bravely seeking help for mental health concerns and demanding safer, more affirming spaces to reach out.

24/7 Support That Cares for Every QCitizen

The helpline, reached simply by dialing “122,” isn’t just another phone number. It’s a lifeline, especially for those who sometimes feel isolated or unheard. Available 24/7 and free of charge, the hotline is staffed by trained crisis responders equipped to provide non-judgmental, confidential emotional support and crisis intervention. These responders have received specialized training from the National Center for Mental Health, ensuring every caller is treated with compassion, competence, and dignity, whether they identify as bakla, trans, queer, or anywhere on the lively rainbow spectrum.

From Community-Based Care to Accessible Medicines

This helpline is just one piece of a much bigger push toward community-based mental health support. Since passing its Mental Health Code in 2022, Quezon City has championed a shift from hospital-centered services to accessible care right in barangay health centers, making mental health care less intimidating and more available to ordinary people. In fact, the city now operates Mental Wellness Access Hubs in every district, where anyone can get free screening, counseling, and even maintenance medicines with the right prescription.

Empowering Barangays, Empowering You

More than 370 barangay officials and staff have been trained in psychological first aid, meaning help is never far away if you or someone close to you faces a mental health challenge. City health workers have also rolled out regular lectures and workshops to fight stigma and build mental health awareness at all levels of the community.
