Rainbow Reflections: QC’s Pride Month Photo Project Captures Stories of Courage
Beneath a canopy of dazzling umbrellas at Quezon Memorial Circle, the heart of Quezon City beat with energetic color and palpable hope on June 17, 2025. As the city painted its gardens and pathways in every shade of the rainbow, a new project shimmered into the spotlight, a Pride Month photo installation capturing raw, joyful, and deeply personal stories of courage from the local LGBT+ community. Each photograph, lovingly displayed under the open sky, did more than just freeze a moment, it illuminated the lives and dreams of queer Filipinos carving their own space under the sun. Stories behind the lens
Meet Tasha, a trans woman with a megawatt smile, caught on camera mid-laugh, draped in a bright yellow shawl. Next to her photo is her own words: “This city taught me to step out with pride, even if my knees shake.” Along the garden’s winding path, Abi and Matt, a couple of six years, pose in matching sneakers, their hands clasped, eyes sparkling. For them, QC’s inclusive spaces are where their love finally felt at home. These are just snapshots in a larger collection, each echoing the struggles and triumphs of coming out, family acceptance, and chosen family bonds.
The project’s organizers say the vision was simple: let queer people tell their own stories, in their own voices. “We wanted to show Quezon City as a home for hope, a place where queer people are seen, celebrated, and safe,” explained curator Jamie Enriquez, herself a proud lesbian activist. “Visibility isn’t about attention, it’s about survival and celebration.”
Pride blooms in every corner
The photo project is just one piece of QC’s growing collection of Pride events this June. From the upcoming QC Pride Run, where rainbow-bedecked runners will sprint through Tomas Morato, to the much-anticipated RainbowQC Pride Film Festival next week, the city is shimmering with queer joy and activism. The city’s consistent commitment echoes throughout these events, spotlighting not just celebration, but also resilience in the face of ongoing discrimination.

These moments of communion, whether in laughter, running shoes, or cinematic reflection, create spaces for Filipino LGBT+ folk to breathe freely, to dream, and to stand tall.
Courage, captured and shared
Walking among the photos, you can’t help but feel the warmth, like finding family in a stranger’s grin or hope in a shared struggle. As the sun sets, and the umbrellas catch the last rays of light, Quezon City’s message is clear: here, every color of courage is welcome. In a world that still too often asks queer people to hide, QC’s Pride Month photo project whispers, lovingly and loud, come out, come home, come as you are.
