Trans Pinoy Confronts Bias in Quezon City

Trans Pinoy Confronts Bias in Quezon City

**Trans Pinoy Navigating Bias in Quezon City**

Hey Bayothub fam, it’s your Doc Raf here, the ever-fabulous therapist, reminding you that taking care of yourself isn’t just important, it’s essential! Today, my heart is heavy as I talk about a brave trans Pinoy facing public discrimination right here in Quezon City. Yet, amid the pain, there’s a strong glimmer of hope. Let’s dig into this story with empathy and empowerment, because our trans siblings deserve to be seen, respected, and to live active lives.

**Facing Discrimination Head-On**

Picture this: stepping outside, embracing your identity as a trans woman, only to be met with stares, whispers, and outright rejection in a city that claims to embrace diversity. Meet Queen Sweetie Acidre, a 38-year-old trans woman who bravely shared her story at [Klinika Eastwood](https://www.scmp.com/week-asia/health-environment/article/3327029/conservative-philippines-quezon-city-becomes-trans-healthcare-trailblazer), a clinic now offering free gender-affirming care. Beginning hormone therapy in her mid-thirties without proper guidance, she faced mood swings and irritability, straining her personal connections. “Transgender individuals are very vulnerable, but people don’t know that because we pretend to be strong and tough,” she shared candidly. Her experience reflects the bias many trans Pinoys confront daily, from street harassment to the denial of basic respect.

**Quezon City’s Progressive Moves**

Yet, there’s progress in Quezon City as a leader in inclusivity! In July 2025, the city enacted the nation’s first gender-inclusive health ordinance. This groundbreaking move mandates affirming consultations, mental health support for trans individuals, and bans conversion therapy. Mayor Joy Belmonte stated, “For far too long, members of the LGBTQIA+ community have faced discrimination and limited access to essential health services.” Facilities like QC General Hospital are spearheading these changes, with a dedicated team ensuring effective implementation. It’s a significant step forward, but we know the bias remains outside clinic walls, testing our resilience in public spaces.

**Doc Raf’s Words of Strength**

To my trans Pinoy warriors enduring discrimination: You are not alone. Embrace that fierce spirit within you, keep a journal of your feelings, find supportive communities like the QC Pride Council, and prioritize your mental well-being. Self-care includes setting boundaries against negativity and celebrating your unique glow. As [Quezon City leads the way](https://mb.com.ph/2025/07/14/quezon-city-govt-passes-1st-gender-inclusive-health-ordinance-in-ph), let’s amplify voices like Queen Sweetie’s. Stand firm against discrimination, fam, your very existence is an act of resistance!
