TransLatin@ Coalition Marks 16 Years Empowering TGI Community
For sixteen years, the TransLatin@ Coalition (TLC) has been a steadfast source of strength, advocacy, and joy for trans, gender expansive, and intersex (TGI) communities, especially among Latin@ immigrants and their loved ones. On August 24, 2025, the Coalition celebrates this milestone, looking back with pride and forward with fierce commitment. TLC’s journey began as a grassroots collective in Los Angeles, founded by and for TGI immigrants determined to create spaces of dignity, safety, and growth. Today, this mission rings louder than ever, providing critical support to a community all too often underserved and unheard.

Building a future where trans Latin@ people thrive
At the heart of TLC’s work is the belief that every TGI person deserves the chance not just to survive, but to thrive. Over the years, TLC has offered a blend of services: access to housing, healthcare, legal advocacy, and leadership development. The Coalition’s lively programs aim to uplift individuals facing barriers due to transphobia, racism, and immigration challenges, providing not just resources but genuine community. By empowering trans leaders and creating safe spaces, TLC continues to fight for visibility and justice on both local and national stages.

Celebrating authenticity and trans joy
Beyond urgent needs, TLC centers trans joy and celebration. The Coalition recognizes that living authentically and forging chosen families is an act of resistance, and a source of deep resilience. Their latest events and campaigns radiate this message, from city marches to digital spaces where community stories are amplified and honored. “We’re spreading trans joy, celebrating authenticity, resilience, and the lively joy of our trans, gender expansive, and intersex community,” TLC declared in their anniversary message.

Heart to Heart: Reflections and calls to action
Sixteen years is more than an anniversary; it’s a proof to collective dreaming, courage, and love. For every Filipino trans, genderqueer, or intersex reader, know that movements like TLC’s pave the way for similar advocacy right here at home. How can we lift each other up in times of struggle? What would it look like to give, and receive, this level of community care in our own barangays and families?
TLC invites everyone, ally, activist, or newcomer, to get involved, whether that means donating, volunteering, or simply sharing their story of perseverance. Today, and every day, the Coalition proves: when we gather with compassion and purpose, we build not just organizations, but chosen families and brighter tomorrows.
